Inspection and Maintenance Requirements for ABC Fire Extinguishers

  • NFPA 10 requires monthly self-inspections of all the fire extinguishers in your building. These inspections can be completed by a member your own team. NFPA 10 requires that detailed records of these monthly inspections are kept and displayed properly. This inspection process is simple, and can be taught to your group quickly by our team of licensed fire extinguisher professionals.

  • NFPA 10 requires that an annual inspection of your fire extinguishers be completed by a fire extinguisher professional. Unlike monthly inspections, which can be performed by a member of your team, annual inspections must be performed by a fully-licensed professional. Upon passing the inspection, new inspection/recertification tags are installed on your fire extinguishers. These annual inspections occur onsite with minimal disruption to your facility.

  • NFPA 10 requires that portable fire extinguishers undergo a special type of maintenance every six years from the manufacture date. Extinguishers are fully discharged, internally inspected and maintained, recharged and relabeled. This six year annual maintenance must be completed by a fully licensed fire extinguisher professional. If the cost of six year maintenance is in excess of the cost of a replacement extinguisher, our team of fire extinguisher professionals will provide you the option to choose the most cost effective solution for your facility.

  • NFPA 10 mandates that fire extinguishers are hydrostatically tested every 12 years. This is a specialized test with costs that often exceed the price of new ABC extinguisher. Other types of fire extinguishers need to be hydrostatically tested more frequently.
